Samuel the prophet, the final Judge anointed Saul as king of Israel. David made Jerusalem his capital and prepared materials for Solomon to build the temple. A civil war followed, dividing the nation into Israel and Judah, with different centers of worship.
Apostasy led Israel into Assyrian captivity. Hezekiah and Isaiah believed in faith and works and Jerusalem was spared. But ultimately Judah’s rebellion resulted in the Babylonians destroying the holy city.
